Da Nang – Quang Ngai route is the first expressway project in the central region belonging to the Development Plan of Vietnam's expressway network until 2020 and orientation for 2030. The project was commenced on May 19, 2013 passing through Da Nang City and 2 provinces: Quang Nam and Quang Ngai with total length of 140 km. In which the expressway route is 131 km long divided into 13 main packages with total investment in the first stage of more than $1,64 (equivalent to VND 34,500 billion). Cienco4 has attended in two packages including package 3A – Ky Lam Bridge and package 4 – tunnel running through Eo mountain with cost of VND 1,112 billion. To make  way for the project, more than 9,300 households have to be relocated; the area of land acquisition is about 560 ha.

The expressway was designed in accordance with the A-class highway standard, phase 1 including 4 lanes and emergency stop with 24.25 meters in width, speed reached 120 km/h for the whole route and 100 km/h for extremely difficult section.

For construction of 65 km road section from km 0 to km65, the contractors had to excavate and backfill over 14 million m3 soil and stones, more than 900,000 m3 of aggregate and 700,000 tons of asphalt concrete. The highlight on this section is the tunnel through Eo Mountain (Km22 + 485 - Km23 + 041) under the package 4 executed by Cienco4 Group, which has been designed according to the NATM (New Austria Tunnel Method) including 556m long on the left side (north direction), 515m long on the right side (south direction), 120km in speed and 12m in width.

After more than 4 years of construction, 65km road section of the project is now basically completed,  ensuring requirements for traffic opening and temporary operation. In duration of temporary exploitation, the  investor (VEC) continues to instruct the contractors for urgent completion of remaining items of the project with a view to putting the entire route into operation by the end of 2017 as directed by the Ministry of Transport.

The Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway, when completed, will help to shorten the distance and travel time between the economic centres of Da Nang and the provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.  In addition, the project will help to connect the international transport axis between Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia through the East-West Economic Corridor.

Also, the route will make great contribution towards the smoothness of transportation flow, enhancement of national security and defense, speed of emergency assistance for residents in flood-stricken areas.
